The History of World Vitiligo Day

World Vitiligo Day was first celebrated in 2011 in Lagos, Nigeria with an event organized by Ogo Maduewesi,  founder and Executive Director of the Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITSAF). The first international celebration was held in Rome, Italy in 2012. World Vitiligo Day has since become a global event with the purpose of raising awareness of vitiligo, recognizing the stigma experienced by the millions of people affected by vitiligo, and celebrating the beauty of vitiligo. The international event has been hosted in fifteen cities across five continents.

World Vitiligo Day-USA was inaugurated in Washington, DC in 2016. This annual event, hosted by the Global Vitiligo Foundation, is held in cities across the US as a three-day conference focused on connection, celebration, education, and empowerment.
