Clinical Trials: The Basics
Clinical trials are research studies that test a specific medical intervention in people. Clinical trials for vitiligo specifically study the safety and efficacy of vitiligo treatments. Participants follow specific procedures to support the scientific rigor of the study. By participating in clinical trials, vitiligo patients become partners in the scientific research that lead to effective treatments and perhaps even a cure.
Are Clinical Trials Safe?
Prior to being tested in a clinical trial, vitiligo treatments are studied in laboratory settings and are often tested in animals to assess safety and effectiveness. Before being approved to move into the clinical trial phase, governing bodies such as the US FDA evaluate the safety of testing in humans.

Clinical Trial Protocol and Assessment Licensing
Through the hard work and altruistic giving of physicians and researchers, the Global Vitiligo Foundation has copyrighted and can license clinical trial protocol, patient assessments, and outcome measures.
