Meet Kimberly Boyd, GVF Board member and Vice President of Vitiligo Support, Global Vitiligo Foundation
About Kimberly Boyd
When first diagnosed with Vitiligo, Kimberly joined the support group that was started by Lee Thomas in Detroit, V-Strong! Over the years, she helped form and joined the Leadership team and organize meetings and events for the support group. She is also a member of the board of directors for the GVF Board, lending a voice for our vitiligo community at large as well as an Ambassador for My Vitiligo Team, where she greets and welcomes new members to the site.
Highlights of her work in vitiligo
In Kimberly’s words, “For our local support group V-Strong, we focus on our local group providing support and encouragement as we continue to spread awareness and drive for change and education in vitiligo. We have signature events that we hold annually (pre-COVID) like our movie day and annual picnic where we gather for fun and support.
As a member of the board of directors for the Global Vitiligo Foundation, I enjoy connecting the foundation with our vitiligo community so that we are all working together to bring about change in a variety of areas for vitiligo including support, awareness, and medically, for those who desire treatment and a cure for vitiligo.”
A favorite quote
“A quote that we hold true at V-Strong is a quote by the English writer, John Heywood; “Many Hands Make Work Light”. What this means for us is the more we work together the greater change we can bring about and working together makes the work we have to do much easier than if we were to go at it alone; together we can accomplish so much more for all involved!”
Kimberly’s Journey
As Kimberly shares, “I was diagnosed with segmental Vitiligo 8 years ago and it’s truly been a journey of self discovery and courage. Since having Vitiligo, I’ve connected with some wonderful people and have had some wonderful opportunities to be involved with and bring about positive change in our Vitiligo community. One of the greatest accomplishments was in 2017 when our support group (V-Strong) hosted the World Vitiligo Day conference in metro Detroit. It was a pleasure and honor to lead this effort. In addition to my work in the Vitiligo community, I have been working in banking for the past 30+ years and am currently managing a team of cash service specialists. Lastly, I am also a career coach and operating my career coach service; Career Glow. Personally, I am married to my husband, David and have 2 Chihuahuas (Cocoa and Mocha).”
