Meet Mark Braxton, who co-leads the North Carolina Vitiligo Support Community with Katrina Christian. Mark serves on the VitFriends’ Board as well as the GVF Communications Committee. He is the lead podcast host for VitFriends Podcasts with his popular show, “Living Life and Love.”
About Mark Braxton
Mark says that the highlight of his advocacy work in the vitiligo community is his outreach through his podcasts. “The podcast has allowed me to reach people across the world. I’ve had the opportunity to host guests from the Czech Republic, several Caribbean Islands, Canada, and Brazil. I’ve hosted artists, fitness specialists, mental health therapists, healthcare professionals, musicians, relationship counselors, and members of the Vitiligo community. I also like to host guests outside of the Vitiligo community to help strengthen our outreach. It’s important to spread Vitiligo education to the general public on local, national, and global levels. Reaching out to the general public allows others to hear our stories and help spread the word that we’re humans just like them; we just have unique skin that makes us stand out,” he shares.
Mark would like for more people to know that Vitiligo is not a contagious disease. “It makes us stand out due to our skin. Once you have a conversation with us, you’ll realize it’s not our skin that matters. Speaking to the human being inside of us matters the most.”
He adds, “Support communities provide people with Vitiligo an extended family they can laugh with, love, cry with, and live with while on their journey.”
Mark loves to draw, paint, and write short stories and poetry. He has written a few short stories about living with Vitiligo. Both eBooks can be found on amazon.com: “The Patterns of Love: A Vitiligo Love Story” and “The Pride: A Vitiligo Story.” (which can be found as a video on YouTube as well: https://youtu.be/c-bZ8u-on5o)
