Meet Global Vitiligo Foundation Medical Advisory Board Member, Marwa Abdallah, MD, who is a Professor of Dermatology, Venereology and Andrology, at Ain Shams University (ASU), in Cairo, Egypt.
Born in Cairo,Dr. Abdallah graduated from German school (DEO) in Egypt (1983) and from Faculty of Medicine ASU in 1988.
She serves as a Professor at ASU since September 2009, head of the Phototherapy Unit since 2006, and head of the Vitiligo Clinic since 2015.
Dr. Abdallah and her family have a private Dermatology Clinic (Cutis, The Skin Clinic) since 1999, which, among other activities, is one of the private referral centers for vitiligo and phototherapy in Egypt and the Middle East.
Since her MD thesis in 1997, which was on the surgical treatment of vitiligo, she became interested in vitiligo. Ever since vitiligo became her passion, Dr. Abdallah worked on all its aspects, including medical, phototherapy, and surgical, and cares about poor vitiligo patients, young and old, in the non-profit ASU hospital.
She says, “The smile of a young patient after being totally re-pigmented is priceless!”
Nationally, she was in charge of arranging vitiligo symposia and different workshops in many conferences in Egypt.
In addition, with her university team, she started awareness meetings with young vitiligo patients (<16 years old) and their families shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic.
On international levels, she has participated as a speaker and has chaired sessions at the GVF and VIS meetings, and has co-authored a number of international research studies for many years.
