November 2022
Meet Perry Whaley, Founder of Vitiligo Man of Action, vitiligo community leader, and member, of the GVF Communications Committee.
Perry has served in a variety of roles in the vitiligo community for many years, which he describes as a “sounding piece, a listening ear, and a mentor.”
In his words, he’s “working with a team of awesome people, Alisha Archibald and Justin Hall, as we prepare for the upcoming 2023 World Vitiligo Conference. It’s a dream come true. We’re able to spread awareness on a greater scale to reach so many more people affected by this skin condition.”
The one message Perry would like for the world to know is, “We, who are living with this condition are real people, just like you and everyone else. WE MATTER. We are MORE than just our skin.”
Perry believes that support is vital. “People living with this skin condition need to know that we’re not invisible. That we matter and that the powers that “be” hear our voices and our concerns. Our community is growing and we are HERE to stay. It’s important that people understand that we are all given a gift in this life. What you choose to do with the gift is up to you. Vitiligo is my gift.”
He adds, “I’m using my vitiligo to hopefully make a difference in someone’s life. Depression is real. I’ve been there. So if I can travel around the world sharing messages of hope, then I’m certainly doing my job.”
