Meet Global Vitiligo Foundation Medical Advisory Board Member Caio Cesar Silva de Castro, MD, PhD, who is a Brazilian board-certified dermatologist, and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Pontificia Universidade Católica in Curitiba, Brasil.
Dr. de Castro teaches medical students and residents and conducts a vitiligo clinic at Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital, a referral center in his country.
His main areas in vitiligo research are: genetics, epidemiology, and clinical trials, and he has been working in several different issues on vitiligo research.
He has published more than 30 papers on vitiligo in journals, such as the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Pigment Cell, and Melanoma Research and The Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. Dr. de Castro has been working on three clinical and laboratory studies and one clinical trial on vitiligo.
He shares, “I am really passionate about the study of vitiligo for over 25 years and I hope to contribute a little to the elucidation of some aspects in the vitiligo pathogenesis and to collaborate in the study of new drugs that may have a positive impact on patients’ lives.”
